Excerpt
Wilder walked into the crime scene and immediately noticed the pungent smell of death. The victim was a young woman, and she had been brutally murdered. Her body was covered in cuts and bruises, and her throat had been slit.
Wilder examined the scene, looking for any clues that could help him identify the killer. He noticed that the victim's clothing had been torn, and there were signs of a struggle. He also found a bloody fingerprint on the wall.
Wilder took the fingerprint back to his lab and ran it through the database. The fingerprint came back to a man named John Doe. Doe was a known criminal with a history of violence.
Wilder tracked down Doe and brought him in for questioning. Doe initially denied any involvement in the murder, but Wilder eventually got him to confess. Doe told Wilder that he had killed the victim because she looked like his ex-girlfriend. He said that he had been stalking her for weeks, and he had finally snapped.
Wilder arrested Doe and charged him with murder. He was glad that he had been able to bring the killer to justice, but he was also saddened by the fact that another young woman had lost her life.
