The series was initially created to showcase stories of science fiction and the unknown, but it quickly became a home for superhero adventures. The first issue of Tales To Astonish featured the debut of Ant-Man, a scientist who had invented a device that allowed him to shrink to the size of an ant.
Ant-Man was an instant success, and he soon became one of Marvel's most popular characters. In 1963, the Wasp, a female superhero who could fly and shrink, was introduced into the series. Together, Ant-Man and the Wasp formed a crime-fighting duo that became known as the Astonishing Team.
In 1965, the series was retitled Tales of Suspense and began to feature stories starring Iron Man and Captain America. These stories were equally successful, and Tales of Suspense became one of Marvel's most popular titles.
In 1968, Tales of Suspense was merged with The Avengers, a new superhero team book. This merger marked the end of the Tales To Astonish series, but its legacy lived on. The characters and stories that were introduced in Tales To Astonish played a major role in the development of the Marvel Universe.
