One Christmas Eve, Mildred is excited to go to bed early so that she can wake up in the morning and see what Santa has brought her. But as she's drifting off to sleep, she hears a loud crash outside.
Mildred gets out of bed and goes to the window. She looks outside and sees that Santa's sleigh has crashed in the backyard! Santa is lying on the ground, and he looks hurt.
Mildred knows that she has to do something. She can't let Santa get hurt, and she can't let Christmas be ruined. So she puts on her coat and her boots and goes outside to help.
When Mildred gets to Santa, she sees that he's not moving. She checks his pulse and feels a faint heartbeat. She knows that she has to get him to the hospital right away.
Mildred picks up Santa and carries him to her house. She lays him down on the couch and calls 911. While she's waiting for the ambulance to arrive, Mildred gives Santa some first aid. She bandages his wounds and gives him some water.
The ambulance arrives a few minutes later and takes Santa to the hospital. Mildred rides with him in the ambulance and stays by his side the whole time. When they get to the hospital, the doctors take Santa into surgery. Mildred waits anxiously in the waiting room.
A few hours later, the doctor comes out to talk to Mildred. He tells her that Santa is going to be okay. He had a few broken bones, but the doctors were able to fix them. Santa will have to stay in the hospital for a few days, but he'll be able to go home for Christmas.
Mildred is so relieved. She knows that Christmas is saved. She goes home and tells her parents what happened. Her parents are proud of her for helping Santa. They tell her that she's a true Christmas hero.
On Christmas morning, Mildred wakes up early and goes to the living room. She looks under the tree and sees that Santa has left her a present. It's a beautiful doll that looks just like her. Mildred is so happy. She knows that this Christmas will be the best one ever.
