In the sultry heat of a Savannah summer, a murder shocks the city to its core. Jim Williams, a prominent antiques dealer, is found dead in his opulent mansion. The police quickly arrest Danny Hansford, a young drifter with a history of violence. But as John Berendt, a journalist from New York City, digs deeper into the case, he uncovers a tangled web of secrets, lies, and dark desires.

Berendt's meticulously researched account of the murder trial and its aftermath paints a vivid portrait of Savannah's high society, a world of old money, aristocratic families, and deeply held traditions. He introduces us to a cast of unforgettable characters, including the flamboyant Lady Chablis, a transgender performer who becomes Berendt's guide to the city's underworld; Joe Odom, the eccentric prosecutor who believes in the power of voodoo; and Minerva, a mysterious woman who claims to have witnessed the murder.

As Berendt delves into the investigation, he uncovers a series of bizarre events and unexplained occurrences that seem to defy rational explanation. He learns about the city's long history of voodoo and superstition, and he begins to wonder whether there is more to the murder than meets the eye.

Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil is a haunting tale of murder, mystery, and the dark side of human nature. Berendt's evocative writing and masterful storytelling transport readers to the heart of Savannah's sultry, seductive world. The book is a classic of true crime and a must-read for anyone interested in the darker side of history.
