State Legislature and Mayor of Tucson

In 1936, James was elected to the Arizona State Legislature. He served in the legislature for 16 years, during which time he authored a number of important laws, including the Arizona Minimum Wage Act and the Arizona Civil Rights Act.

In 1952, James was elected mayor of Tucson. He served as mayor for 12 years, during which time he presided over a period of rapid growth and development in the city.

Business and Philanthropy

In addition to his political career, James was also a successful businessman. He founded a number of businesses, including the James Construction Company and the James Investment Company.

James was also a generous philanthropist. He donated millions of dollars to organizations that benefited the people of Pima County. He was particularly interested in supporting education and the arts.

Legacy

Duncan James died in 1974 at the age of 82. He is remembered as one of the most influential figures in Pima County history. His legacy lives on in the many institutions and organizations that he helped to create.
